The composition of DMG easily makes available one of the methyl groups to fuel numerous, critical biochemical processes in the body. Vitamins, hormones, neurotransmitters, enzymes, nucleic acids ( RNA, DNA), and antibodies depend upon the transfer of methyl groups to complete their re-synthesis and function in the body. There are 41 transmethyl reactions in the body.(2) The methyl group transferred from DMG is vital to each one of these biochemical processes.
