This is the second of seven articles that chronicle the details of this precious bird’s healing process.
In sharing this information with you I ask you to acknowledge along with me that parrots are intelligent, sentient and self-aware individuals capable of feeling a wide range of human-like emotions.
Using a Holistic Approach

Feeling satisfied that Elvis would be happy with me this woman decided that he was mine if I wanted him. My heart went out to this sweet little conure. I knew I could help him.
x
As she began readying his cage for transport, I looked in his food dish and saw only dry seeds. I wondered how much poor nutrition had contributed to his feather destruction. I asked about his favorite foods and learned that he liked apples. Well, that was a start.
x
I noticed his cage had no toys inside. When I asked about what he liked to play with I was told, “We never gave him any toys. We decided that we would keep him Entertained.” I knew I had my work cut out for me.

Upon arriving home Elvis went into quarantine. Although he would live with me from now on, I had to put the welfare of my other parrots first. Having become accustomed to being the center of attention Elvis did not like being off by himself.

Settling him in, I could see the concern in his eyes. Do you know someone who can silently read the disposition or mood of another person? I have a gift similar to that, except it is with animals. With my ability I sense intuitive information in a variety of forms. I may see mental images, experience specific emotions, or feel physical sensations. I then formulate my impressions into words describing the animal’s perspective.

Over the years my work with animals has taught me that all sentient, self aware, beings have four components in common. These aspects are the mental, emotional, physical and spiritual elements that come together in a unique blend making each individual who he or she is.
x
The mental aspect includes a bird’s belief system that guides them in making decisions and choices. This belief system can also cause them to react a certain way, instead of being able to make a choice regarding their actions. The emotional side includes how they feel – happy, safe, frightened or well-cared for and loved. The physical aspect is a bird’s body, their diet, and the environment they live in. Their spiritual aspect acknowledges that each individual bird is a part of this wondrous web of life here on earth. Each individual radiates a glimmer of the magic of the Universal Life Force Energy that animates all life.
