A Shared Foundation
I especially enjoy this book because it provides a perspective on using food as medicine for people that is very similar to how I use food as medicine for healing our companion animals – especially parrots. The book begins by offering the idea that using food and nutritional supplements as medicine for healing the body is ‘Spiritual Nutrition’. Khalsa explains that the reason people are embracing integrative medicine is because they crave the experience of wellness that this type of approach gives. In 1999 over 50 percent of Americans had visited an alternative medical practitioner. And these numbers keep climbing. He invites readers to leave their old nutritional habits of the past century behind, and chart a new and different course.

Energetic Medicine
“Food as Medicine” hints of the connection between fresh foods and their energetic vibration that nourishes the physical body in a way that cannot be defined in all those food nutrient charts. Khalsa explains that during the particular time we are now moving through we are transitioning from a period of needing information to wanting experiences – positive experiences. If you’re looking to improve the quality of the foods you eat, and feel better as benefit, this book will point you in a good direction.
