If you are sprouting for only one parrot, this blog post will help you improve your success. Using too large a jar for the amount of BBFE! you sprout can cause failed attempts.
An email from one of our customers:
Hello Leslie,
This morning will mark the third day of sprouting (I opened a new bag of BBFE! for this batch). The sprouts smell better and look a little better than the last three failed attempts. There’s a little bit of tails on the mung beans (photo further down) but not as long as in the past when I first began sprouting.
Thanks for your help with this,
Mindy & Oscar (Mealy Amazon)

Our Investigation into Failed Sprouting Results:
After checking the
- Water quality (per Chapter 6 in “Polly Want a Sprout?”
- Soaking water temperature
- Length of soaking time (overnight)
- Temperature in the kitchen sprouting area
Everything was done correctly.
But these are poor results:

The Solution to Failed Sprouting Results
Since Mindy was sprouting only for Oscar I asked what size of jar she was using. A one quart jar and adding just one tablespoon of BBFE! to sprout.
I had been conducting some sprouting experiments on how a new type of rice was sprouting, then it dawned on me. Mindy needed to use a smaller-size of jar.
.
A week later I received an email from Mindy:
I Got Sprouts!!!
Hello Leslie,
I just wanted to share the great news. The sprouts are doing much better since I started using a smaller jar as you suggested. I can’t wait to feed these to Oscar tonight with his MASH.
Thank you!
